What is Glass Etching?

Glass etching is a way for you to permanently etch designs into any glass surface. It can be a window, a baking pan, a picture frame, or anything else your imagination can invent. For glass etching, we will send you the vinyl template of the letters along with some glass etching cream. You then carefully place the vinyl on the glass surface and paint the cream on the glass. When finished, it is simply washed off with water, and you have your beatifully etched surface.

What is reverse text?

Reverse text just means that the text will be flip-flopped horizontally. This can be used to put on the inside of glass surfaces, or for any other purposes. Below is an example of how it would look normally and reverse.

What is Vinyl Lettering

Vinyl lettering is the latest trend in home decor! Vinyl is an easy-to-remove, self-adhesive film that can be hung most anywhere -- at home, in places of worship, at the office, on the car, or in the school. Vinyl can be hung not only on walls, but placed on refrigerators, windows, doors, cabinets, shelves, lockers, cars, books, tiles, smooth metal, plastic, the glass in your favorite photo frames, and on limitless other surfaces that personalize your living space.

Vinyl creatively transforms your favorite quotes, scriptures, thoughts, and sayings into wall art that looks professionally hand-painted and applied without the time, cost, and mess. The pre-spaced, one-time-use letters and images, cut to perfection through computer technology, press onto any smooth surface and stay there until easily removed.

What surfaces will the vinyl stick to?

The vinyl sticks to almost any smooth or lightly textured surface like painted walls (allow to paint to dry for 2 weeks prior), glass, mirrors and smooth metal and wood as well as ceramic tile. Glossy vinyl has a stronger adhesive backing, so matte is not recommended for outdoor or textured uses.

The vinyl will not stick to rough or uneven surfaces like cinder block, brick or stucco. It will also not stick to walls with matte paint.

We HIGHLY suggest that if you have any doubts as to whether or not the vinyl will work for you, please contact us to request a free sample.

What are Vinyl Decals?

Vinyl decals are stickers that are stuck to walls and other smooth surfaces for decoration and informational purposes. They are cut with vinyl cutting machines. Wall decals are usually one color per decal, but may also come in full color varieties. Also called wall stickers, wall tattoos, vinyl lettering, and wall vinyl.

Our vinyl is pre-pasted, pre-spaced, individually cut letters that press on your wall or any flat surface. These are not decals with clear film around the letters, but rather individually cut letters that have been pre-spaced for you. The letters arrive on a sheet of paper which adheres to your wall. After pressing the sheet to your wall, you pull it back and only the lettering remains. The letters are thin... equivalent to about 2-3 coats of paint, so they give you the look of hand-painted stenciling without the time and trouble. And they don't fade or crack.

See the following Wikipedia article for a full definition of vinyl lettering or wall decals.

Can I reuse the vinyl?

Typically the vinyl cannot be reused, although it can be removed.  Removing the vinyl will not allow it to remove in such a manner that it can be reused.  It is typically stretched and not as sticky as before.  Also, it needs to be on some sort of transfer paper or tape to be able to move it to a new surface.  We do try to keep our prices low so that you can purchase the same decals for a minimal cost.

Is the vinyl permanent?

No and it is very simple and easy. The Wall Works is perfect for both renters and homeowners because they are easy to remove when you are ready to re-design things.

To remove, simply take a corner of each letter by using your fingernail or tweezers and gently pull off the lettering. Continue to pull off each letter or piece until done. If you've had the lettering on the wall for a long period of time, you can soften them up by using a hair dryer.

In most instances, it is possible to remove vinyl lettering with no residual damage to the applied surface. While this is typically the case, different substrate materials can react in different ways, so if you're unsure of the resulting reaction, it's important to test an inconspicuous area of your surface before applying the following techniques to the entire area. The upside is that most surfaces, including vehicles, respond well to the vinyl removal technique outlined below, with no resulting damage to the surface.

Sometimes the adhesive on the vinyl may leave residue on the wall.  You can use rubbing alcohol to remove the residue, just do not rub it for long or very hard, as it can take off paint.  Be sure to test in an inconspicuous spot to verify that this will work without damaging the paint.

**Please note that when working with decals that have been in place for a significant length of time, there is the slight possibility that the paint around the decal will appear discolored or faded upon removal. Usually this only occurs in cases where the decal has been exposed to the sun for extreme periods of time. This significant sun exposure will result in a tan line effect on the surface, whereby the unexposed area under the decals will appear nice and shiny next to the faded, exposed surface.**

How do I apply vinyl decals?

It is best to see how this is done. View the application video to see how to apply vinyl decals and lettering.

When will my order arrive?

We ship all custom orders within six business days!

We ship all orders via USPS (unless otherwise requested UPS).  Standard shipping, which is first class mail, is typically 3-5 business days when it has been picked up from USPS. You can upgrade your shipping to overnight or priority (1-3 business days) during checkout.  The only shipping time that USPS can guarantee an exact time is overnight. We encourage orders to be placed at least three weeks in advance so it provides plenty of time to ship and apply.
